Ireland 2005
In 2005 we made our trip to
Ireland. We were there for 12 days visiting at least 12 counties and maybe more.
When we were there I shot well over 3,000 pictures and Deb shot about 7 rolls
beside that. Of the twelve days we were there it rained about half the time, but
that is Ireland. The people kept telling us it was going to be gorgeous and it
finally did toward the end of our trip, but I never got to see the sunset on
Galway Bay, next time we will. Of course along with all of that we did and the
fact we found my relatives along with
the house that John and Elizabeth Doherty lived in in the 1800's, it was well
worth trading a little bad weather for the discoveries we found. All in all it
was as I told Deb before we left the greatest adventure of our lives. There are
over 40 pages in this site including copies of the actual maps we used and the
census papers of 1901 and 1911 of County Leitrim given to us in Leitrim and the
genealogy report given to me on our second day in Ireland which in effect
launched us on our successful search for my relatives. Without their help we
never would have found them, but we did. The pages are broken down by the day. I think that was
the easiest way to do it. I hope you can get some sense of the fun and joy that
we had on this trip and that I hope, sincerely hope you can visit Ireland in the
near future. It is just a great place. On our trip except for about 3 days we
were busy every day from breakfast till late at night. It was very tiring but in
the end it was all worth it. I hope you enjoy it, like we did. One last
thing. The two days July 6 and July 7 were the days we found my relatives and if
you would like to read my thoughts about those two days and also kind of an
overview of what I saw in Leitrim please look at the days, it might be easier to
understand to first read the days and then look at the pictures or just enjoy
the site, its up to you.
