The beautiful site above was shot from atop a ringed fortress called Grianan of Aileach middle picture. It sits upon a 800 foot high hill. the site above takes in Counties Tyrone, Derry and Donegal. This fort is over 3700 years old and in the 12th century was completely destroyed in fact the King of Munster Murtaugh O'Brien ordered every rock taken away. Around 1870 the fort was restored to its present state by a historian from the Derry area. When I was taking these pictures it was 50 mph winds and I almost got knocked off the top of the fort.. You can see on the right the structure of the fort and how hard it must have been to build. It is located in County Donegal, very close to Burnfoot, just below the Inishowen Peninsula.
