Second Day in Ireland

In the research on my family that I had started working on in 2002, and 2003 I found out who John Doherty and Elizabeth Wynne were. In my research both Deb and I had thought we had found them a couple of times, but there was one part that kept throwing us off the beaten track. We knew from the 1901 Census of Ireland that John and Elizabeth were still living, at least at the time we thought we had the right people. The part that had us confused is that they had a 29 year old female living with them. We knew that Michael Dougherty came to the United States in 1870, so it didn't seem possible that a 29 year old female would be living there. She could have been a granddaughter, but we also knew that one child stayed home and the age just didn't make sense.

About 2 months before we left for Ireland I emailed the Leitrim Genealogy Center in Ballinimore. The letter on the left told us alot and we picked it up on our second day in Ireland after visiting Cong. It told us that we had been right, we did have them, but we didn't know it at the time. After reading this we knew it and it gave us much hope. Here was the explanation of who the 29 year old was and who she eventually married. From here we went to the Doherty Reunion in Inishowen and then from there went to Leitrim to begin our search, but we at least now had this information. We then headed for Sligo.
